Both Emsisoft Internet Security and Emsisoft Anti-Malware‘s latest versions are fresh off the press and the reviews are already rolling in. We are proud to receive the Best+++ 100% effectiveness rating in AVLab Poland’s November 2016 test for both products in their respective categories for home users and for small and medium businesses.

The objective of this test was to indicate the best solution for the real-time protection against crypto-ransomware. Note: To maintain equal conditions for the test, AVLab decided to use the default settings. Though some of the tested security suites have protection against ransomware specifically, developers decided to disable by default this specific functionality and test each product based on its default settings.

For the test, AVLab used “28 malicious software files of crypto-ransomware. Among others there were: Cerber, CryptXXX, DetoxCrypto, Hitler Ransomware, HolyCrypt, Locky, Numecod, Petya, Jigsaw, Vipasana, Stampado and many others. The study included the total amount of 28 samples collected in a collaboration with independent researchers.”

Why test against ransomware?

AVLab states “we wanted to illustrate to all the readers the scale and seriousness of the risk of the ransomware with which we are dealing.”

Ransomware is an increasing risk that provides easy profit for developers at epidemic levels. We have covered ransomware in great length on the Emsisoft Blog. Learn more about how to protect your data and minimize your risk of infection.

About AVLab

AVLab tests are independent and take place in conditions close to reality. AVLab obtains samples for tests without collaborating with any security software developer. This way, there is no suspicion that any tested application will detect threats provided by its developer. Outlined in their test methodology they report:

In order to check a protection effectiveness of the most popular antivirus applications for businesses and home users, we have prepared an image of Windows 10 Professional x64 with the latest updates dated the day before the test. This way, all products have been tested in the identical test environment and had access to the Internet.

The result: 100% effective

Both Emsisoft Anti-Malware and Emsisoft Internet Security proved highly effective at blocking ransomware files upon initial scan without giving the file the chance to even run on the system. This only highlights the improved scan detection capabilities of our online security products.
